Red T was established in 2010 to advocate for the protection of translators and interpreters working in conflict zones and other high-risk settings. Changing the way linguists are perceived by those who employ them and by the broader public is essential to that effort.

Founder and CEO Maya Hess is a forensic linguist who has provided language support and expert witness services in many high-profile terrorism trials. She holds an M.A. in Journalism from New York University, a Graduate Certificate in Terrorism Studies from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the City University of New York.

Organized by the IAS Interpretation and Translation Studies at the University (ITSU) Research Collaborative and cosponsored by German, Scandinavian, and Dutch.
