On February 23, 2023, the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association (Cumann Aistritheoirí agus Ateangairí na hÉireann) paid tribute to the work of Red T founder Maya Hess by awarding her an honorary membership:

“Honorary Membership of the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association (ITIA) is conferred on individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the field of translation and interpreting around the world. The ITIA is delighted to announce that Maya Hess is the very worthy recipient for their 2023 award. Her unstinting advocacy on behalf of linguists, and her consistent inclusion of the widest coalition of international partners possible in this vital lobbying work, has increased exponentially our understanding and awareness of linguists at risk.”

The award ceremony was followed by an in-person discussion that was organized and hosted by the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation (TCLCT) at Trinity College Dublin.

All of us at Red T would like to express our gratitude to ITIA’s Executive Board, its chair Mary Phelan and board member Annette Schiller, as well as to all ITIA members who voted for this distinction. We also thank the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation and its director, James Hadley, for organizing and hosting the event. Maya said about the evening: “It was a thrilling experience to be in a venue steeped in history that came alive with an enthusiastic and engaged audience, and the warm hospitality I received was second to none.”
